Aged cherry branch with built-in memory stick, photo of itself blossoming, laptop, 2016

The work "Reminiscence Stick" can be seen as a commentary on today's mediated approach to nature. Here, nature is on one hand a physical object in the form of an aging cherry branch. On the other hand, it functions as a data (gene) carrier connected to a laptop that displays an image of a blossoming cherry tree. This image illustrates how we perceive the mixing of virtual nature and physically real nature. Nature has become an image on our screens, one that we can optimize and design ourselves, and on which the cherry tree blossoms forever instead of slowly rotting away like the branch. This raises questions on eternal life and at the same time, visualizes transience and reminiscence of youth in a poetic way.
